Expected value = the estimated market value of the cards inside, from odds sheets and recent sold comps, divided by the street price. Above ~100% is a genuine rip; near 100% is a coin flip; well below means buy the single instead. Directional editorial estimates, not guarantees.

Are vintage hobby boxes worth opening?
It depends on the box. Sealed wax is priced so most boxes return less than they cost — that's how the hobby funds the chase. We rate each vintage box on expected value: "rip" when the math works, "skip" when you're better off buying the single you want, and "hold" for sealed product that appreciates unopened.
