Digital Pack Odds Desk

What a digital pack is really worth — computed from the operator's own published odds.

Digital packs are the fastest-growing corner of the hobby, and the only one where the same company sets the price, publishes the odds, and decides what your card is worth. Every number a buyer sees comes from the other side of the trade. This page does the arithmetic on those published numbers — the house edge, what a typical pack actually returns, and what the same card costs to just buy outright.

Nothing is scored yet — on purpose

The engine is built and tested, but we publish a pack's numbers only after checking its odds against the operator's own page. 16 packs are queued for that check. We would rather show you an empty table than a confident number we haven't verified — which is the same standard we'd want applied to the platforms themselves.

In the meantime, the method is written up in full below: it tells you how to run these numbers yourself on any pack, from any operator, today.

Questions

What is a digital pack?

You pay a fixed price, the platform shows you a randomized opening, and you receive one real graded card. You then either have it shipped to you or take the platform's instant cash offer. The card is real; the pack is a user interface.

What does "house edge" mean here?

The share of each dollar the buyer does not get back. If a $100 pack returns an average of $58 in realizable value, the house edge is 42%. We compute it from the operator's own published odds, so it is arithmetic on their numbers rather than an opinion about their business.

Why show a median instead of an average?

Averages are dragged upward by rare chase cards almost nobody pulls. Because a pack has exactly one outcome drawn from a published list, the full distribution is known exactly — so we can say what half of all packs actually return. That number is usually far below the average, and it is the honest answer to "what will probably happen to me".

Is the instant cash offer a rip-off?

Usually not, and we were wrong about this before we did the math. Selling a card yourself on the open market costs roughly 13% in marketplace fees, so a 90% buyback is competitive with selling it yourself. The cost is somewhere else: in the odds, and in the gap between the value the platform assigns a card and what that card actually sells for. A generous-looking buyback quoted against an inflated value is still a small payout.

Can I judge a pack by the platform's feed of recent pulls?

Be careful. On at least one platform the live pull feed is documented as showing only cards the collector kept — cards sold straight back to the platform never appear. Since the pulls people sell back are mostly the disappointing ones, a feed built that way over-represents good outcomes. It is survivorship bias rather than dishonesty, and it applies in principle to any platform that offers an instant cash-out and also runs a public feed. We can say which way the bias points, not how large it is.

Can you verify the odds?

No, and neither can anyone else outside the company. We check them for internal consistency, compare the platform's stated card values against real sold prices, and watch the odds pages for silent changes. What we cannot do is confirm that the published rates are the rates actually used. A sealed box's odds are printed by a manufacturer and cannot change after it ships; a digital pack's odds are a webpage.

Does Wildcard make money if I open a pack?

No. We take no commission, affiliate revenue or paid placement from any pack-opening platform, and we do not sell packs. That is a deliberate rule, not an oversight — we cannot referee a game we have a stake in.

We do not sell packs and take no revenue from any platform named here. Odds are self-reported and unaudited. Corrections welcome via the Discord.
